Tips For Maids of Honor to Help Brides On Their Wedding Day

One of the joys of being a friend or sister of the bride is being asked to be their Maid of Honor for the wedding. The Maid of Honor will serve as a point of contact for the bridal party and perhaps some of the vendors and helps plan events for the bridal party. Here are tips for Maids of Honor to help the bride on the wedding day.

Know the Schedule for the Wedding Day Well Ahead of Time

When the wedding day arrives, you will need to know when and where the bride needs to be for various events. While the event staff is there to assist, you are the point person so that activities remain on time and with little worry.

Keep in touch with the bride throughout the planning process just to be sure enough time is being allotted for activities. A week before the wedding, distribute the schedule review with everyone to answer any questions and confirm everyone is on board. Even on the day of, make sure everyone has a copy of the schedule.

Attend Wedding Dress Appointments With the Bride

As the Maid of Honor, you should attend the fitting appointments with the bride (and certainly, if possible, accompany her when dress shopping to offer good advice). Bridal gowns have become somewhat complex in their design and the Maid of Honor (and bridesmaids, too) should know how the gown is fastened to assist the bride in dressing.  Likewise, before the procession and once down the aisle, the Maid of Honor should “prep” the train and skirt as needed.

Plan Events to Get to Know the Bridal Party

Sometimes the bride and groom have different circles of friends and it’s nice to get everyone “together” before the wedding to informally meet. One of the things the Maid of Honor can do is put together some kind of meeting or get together for the entire wedding party. Whether this is in person or virtual depends on everyone’s location.

It’s a good idea to work with the best man in coordinating the groomsmen’s schedule. It doesn’t have to be long, but this will help everyone get to know each other and feel comfortable with each other at the wedding. This will also make the bride and groom feel less stressed.

Have A Wedding Day Survival Kit

The wedding day can have various challenges, and having a wedding day survival kit can help you in dealing with issues should they arise. Having a small kit with a pain reliever, band-aids, a small sewing kit, safety pins, and hair pins is a good start.  This will not only help you, but will help others in the long run, and make sure everyone in the bridal party knows where it’s at and take it to each venue location if necessary.
