8 Emerging Wedding Dress Trends

Last week, the bridal fashion industry staged a major comeback with the return of New York Bridal Fashion Week. This event is usually held twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. While this year’s event was mostly held virtually due to the pandemic, there was no shortage of exciting wedding dress trends on display. Here are 8 of the most popular trends from the event that you can definitely look forward to seeing at weddings in 2022:

Corset Dresses

Wedding dresses that incorporate a corset have taken the bridal world by storm. This seems to be part of a larger Regency era trend that’s inspired by the Netflix hit, Bridgerton. Other Regency era looks to watch: Gloves, empire-waisted gowns, elaborate sleeves, beaded dresses, lace gowns, and even floral frocks.

Unique Sleeve Designs

A variety of sleeve types could be spotted at New York Bridal Fashion Week. From the extremely popular puff sleeve to bell and ruffle sleeves, complex sleeve looks are quickly overtaking strapless styles.

Detachable Gowns

Many brides choose to buy separate dresses for both the wedding ceremony and the reception or party that follows. However, the newest trend in wedding fashion is to wear a detachable wedding dress that lets you remove sleeves or a train without ever needing to slip into a new gown. Detachable overskirts, in particular, are proving to be incredibly popular. You can also take advantage of this trend by pairing your dress with a wedding cape or jacket!

Black Color Accents

Black is a classy, elegant color that provides an unexpected pop of color and contrast on a traditional white wedding dress. In fact, black wedding dresses, as well as black accents, have become incredibly popular since the start of the pandemic.

Short Length and High-Low Wedding Dresses

While the flowing train will always be a wedding dress classic, the most popular trend right now is the short wedding gown. The high-low, or asymmetrical wedding dress look, is also a trendy choice for brides in 2022. Both styles were modeled at last week’s bridal fashion week event.

Ruffled Looks

Ruffles and overflowing fabrics were the highlights at New York Bridal Fashion Week. These romantic looks pair beautifully with either minimal accessories or more dramatic additions, like gold drop earrings or an elegant headpiece.

Wedding Dresses with Bows

Wedding dresses with bows on the sleeves or a bow design on the dress were all the rage in the spring. These gowns have continued to be ultra trendy and will definitely take us into 2022. Here’s a dress from our collection with a sophisticated bow in the back.

Square Necklines

Another Bridgerton-inspired trend, square necklines were also popular in the 1980s and 90s. These necklines look gorgeous on every bride and are expected to continue to be one of the most popular neckline choices for brides in 2022.
