Weddings can be a challenging and stressful time for both you and your partner. Emotions run high while planning the wedding of your dreams, so it’s easy to get stressed. But you can learn to manage that stress. Here are five tips for how to handle stress when planning your wedding.
#1 – Take Time For Yourself
Weddings can sometimes make you forget your own needs as you focus on your partner, family, guests, etc. Make sure you take the time for yourself: go for a walk, get your nails done, play a video game, read a book, and do something else you love. Also don’t forget basic needs such as eating well, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep.
#2 – Communicate If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
One way to nip stress in the bud is to communicate. If people don’t know you’re feeling stressed, there is no way they can help you. Ask for help when you need it. Perhaps your wedding planner can take on a few more details or you can ask your maid or honor or bridesmaids to assist as well. Don’t be afraid to tell your partner you’re under some stress; they will certainly pitch in more to help.
#3 – Delegate Tasks to Others You Trust
Going hand-in-hand with communication is being able to delegate. As noted above, ask others in your wedding party to take on some tasks if you feel a bit overwhelmed. Remember planning a wedding is a team effort so don’t be afraid to call on your team. Getting help with things like communicating with vendors, coordinating gown fittings, logging rsvp’s, are all tasks that can be delegated. Speaking of your partner, make sure you have discussed with them who is going to be the primary handler for any specific task.
#4 – Go On A Date Night
Go out on a date night with your partner and leave the details of the wedding behind. The goal of the evening is to remember why you’re getting married. Do something fun that both of you enjoy will go a long way to relieving the wedding stresses. Focus on showing each other how much you love each other, without talking about your wedding plans.
#5 – Have Backup Plan or Two
While we all have a vision, we can’t always execute the vision the way we plan. Having a backup plan especially if you’re having an outdoor or a destination wedding, can help you minimize the stresses as your wedding day approaches. That way if anything doesn’t go according to plan, you’re not completely lost. This is just the start of wedding day stress tips.
