5 Self-Care Tips For Wedding Planning

Wedding planning can sometimes feel like a second job. It can be a challenge to know where to draw the line when you’re in the middle of wedding planning. It’s important to take breaks so that you remember the joy of what’s coming and don’t become too bogged down with the details. Here are 5 self-care tips to keep in mind when wedding planning.

#1 – Take Time Off From Wedding Planning During the Week

It’s recommended that you take 1-2 days off of wedding planning during the week. During this time off, table all your thoughts about wedding activities — as much as possible. Don’t browse social media for inspiration, and don’t talk wedding planning.

On the non-wedding planning days, try to return yourself to your normal activities. Maybe get back to one of your hobbies or outside activities that you have paused because of the wedding planning.  Go on a date night with your partner or join a group of friends for an evening out.

#2 – Take a Walk When You Start Feeling Stressed

A part of self-care is noticing when you feel stressed. To help when you begin to feel stress overtaking you, take a break and step outside and take a walk and enjoy your surroundings.  The walk doesn’t need to be long, and you will come back feeling a bit more relaxed.  You can walk around your neighborhood. If you’re lucky enough to live near a park or the woods, spend time walking there. Whatever you choose to take a break, it will help you relax and refocus when you start your wedding planning again.

#3 – Delegate Tasks When Able

The best way to look out for yourself and minimize stress is to delegate tasks. Not every wedding decision needs to be made by you, or your partner, and there are ways to include your wedding party in the planning. Give your wedding party members specific tasks like the point of contact for the caterers or the reception venue. If you have any events such as a dress fitting, someone else can be the point of contact for this as well.

#4 – Have a Dance Party with Your Favorite Music

If you don’t have the time to take a walk (or if the weather is inclement), do something inside your house.  Have a personal dance party. Queue up your favorite playlist and dance around the house. Not only will this take your mind off wedding planning, but it’s a way to get some energy flowing and have fun at the same time.

#5 – Remember to Sleep and Take a Nap When Needed

Wedding planning can last until late into the night, especially if you start planning after the workday. Don’t let wedding planning take all of your time. Be sure to get enough sleep. Turn off your phone and computer an hour before you go to bed so you can pause your wedding planning for the night.  Likewise, during the day,  a power nap can help you relax and feel refreshed for the rest of your day.
