4 Tips For Planning a Wedding on a Budget

Weddings are getting more elaborate and costly every year. As costs have increased, some beyond the control of the bride and groom, couples are looking for ways to save while still having the wedding of their dreams.  Here are 4 tips to assist you in planning on a budget.

#1 – Choose a Date Not During Peak Wedding Season

Spring, summer, and early fall are considered prime wedding seasons, so unfortunately you may not be able to save money booking during these times. During these prime months (May-October) wedding venue costs may vary depending on the location.

If your dates are flexible, research your desired venue to see when their costs are lowest. Likewise, if your dates aren’t flexible, research a number of different venues to see which ones may be lower and fit your budget. The day of the week also plays a part. Weddings are more expensive on the weekends, so consider a  mid-week wedding to save money.

#2 – Prioritize What’s Important to You

As a couple, figure out what’s important to you and where you want to allocate the majority of your budget. If food is near the top of your list, work with your venue host to develop a menu and budget you like.  With that budget, compare that to what you estimated. If it’s in line, then you’re all set. If it’s higher then you’ll need to make adjustments.

If food remains at the top then you’ll need to reduce other areas like entertainment, decorations, etc. Budget adjustments may be difficult to make but  remember  the most important things are prioritized for you as a couple.

#3 – Book A Venue That Will Let You Bring Your Own Beverages

Alcohol can add up quickly so consider booking a venue that will let you bring your own. This will not only save you money and also let you determine what drinks are served. One option is to create a “signature drink” and have that available before, during, and after dinner.  This will add to the “speciality” of your reception.

#4 – Have some Fun and DIY the Wedding Decorations

If you’re the crafty type, use your skills and make your own decorations as a way to save money. Engage your wedding party to help you design and create unique decorations for your wedding.  This could be a fun event for the wedding party to get to know each other and spend some  quality time  outside of official wedding duties.
