Since the moment you put that ring on your finger, you’ve been inundated with the numbers. How many guests? How many bridesmaids and groomsmen? How much per plate at the reception?
Between the flowers and the hall and the caterer and the musicians, it becomes almost too much to bear! But it’s important to center your focus on your wedding day and the overall experience, rather than getting bogged down by the numbers.
Breathe
Take a moment and breathe. This is your day and that thought needs to be foremost in your mind, especially when it comes to your wedding dress.
There are very few items in our lives that we spend so much time, and money on that we will only use once. Your wedding dress is one of them. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, but it does need to be special. For that reason, it’s time to focus on the day and not the numbers.
The size and the price don’t matter. Don’t stress about fitting into the dress or about fitting the dress into the budget. Find the dress that fits you. Your significant other already wants you for the rest of your lives. Don’t worry about your weight. It will just add additional stress to the situation.
Style
The style is more important than the size. Wedding dresses usually need to be altered. It’s a fact. Now isn’t the time to go on a diet or “try” to lose weight. Be you, you’re good at it.
The most important thing is to find your style. Whether it’s an A-line dress, or a Mermaid fit, whatever makes you feel good and special is the dress for you. Don’t be afraid to show off your best features. Look for the gown that makes you the star, because you are one.
Opinions
There is one opinion that matters, yours! That doesn’t mean you won’t want input. However, it’s important to be with the people that will not take away from your day.
When you go to find your dress, or when you begin to browse online, have friends and family that will give you an honest opinion without making you feel bad about your choices.
Put your high heeled, or if you’re inclined, your sneakered bridal foot down. If someone is leading you to becoming bridezilla, tell them to back off in the nicest way you can, however that may be.
Stress Less
Don’t stress about your pictures. You will never look like this again. This day is unique. It is special. You are special and your dress should reflect you.
Remember, your last name might not be Murphy, but Murphy will attend with his law. Things will go wrong and that’s okay. Years from now, you will look back at the pictures, in your beautiful gown, with your makeup and hair done like it has never been, or may never be done again. You will remember that the flower girl dropped the bouquet, or the groomsman tripped on the carpet runner.
You will smile when you see yourself and your bridesmaids, you and your significant other, you and the people you chose to spend the day with. You’ll look back and remember how beautiful you were that day, the first day of the rest of your wonderful life together with the person you love.
You will realize that you are still that beautiful, even if the dress is in a box, carefully put away for when your daughter or granddaughter may want to make it theirs.
