5 Pros and Cons of Hiring a Wedding Planner

One of the main things that couples discuss when they get married is whether or not to use the services of a wedding planner. Some couples prefer to do everything themselves while others might want the help of a wedding planner in some capacity. Here are five pros and cons of planning with a wedding planner.

Pro: A Wedding Planner Can Find Discounts

When planning a wedding, you want to keep cost in mind. Wedding planners work with venues and suppliers, and can often get you a discount you might not have gotten on your own. While you might be able to get a discount with a package, such as the wedding hall and the reception venue, a wedding planner may be able to get a larger discount.

Con: Wedding Planners Cost Extra Money

The biggest con of using a wedding planner is the fact that they charge for their service. Wedding planners charge different rates depending on their services, so their overall cost will need to be part of your wedding budget. The average cost of a full wedding planner is between $1,800-4,000.

On the other hand, if you only need minimal help, a wedding planner will run you a few hundred dollars.  When talking with a wedding planner, make sure to confirm terms of payment. Some planners may accept partial payments during their time assisting, while others may require full payment upfront.

Pro: A Wedding Planner Takes the Stress Off of You

Brides and grooms often have a vision of their perfect wedding long before they begin to plan. However, making that vision a reality can be a headache for many and overwhelming on the worst days. Your wedding should be a time when you feel joyous and excited. If the stress of wedding planning is becoming too much for you, a wedding planner could be a good way to go. They’ll listen to your vision and then take the planning from there.

Con: Your Wedding May Feel Less Personal With a Wedding Planner

On the other hand, your wedding might feel more streamlined with a wedding planner and less personal. You should always share your vision with your wedding planner beforehand. However, a poor wedding planner might still go with their own ideas or take too strong a role in your decision-making, thus leaving you wishing your wedding felt more like you.

Pro: Having a Wedding Planner Saves You Time

Planning a wedding will be time consuming either way but having a wedding planner can give you more time for other things. A planner will help by taking some of the planning tasks away from you.  When planning your wedding, consider both the pros and cons before you decide what your final decision will be.
