Pros and Cons of Wearing a Wedding Veil

Wearing a veil is something that every bride considers when deciding on a wedding day look. There are different things to consider whether  to include a wedding veil as part of your wedding ensemble.  Here are some pros and cons of wearing a veil on your wedding day.

The Pros

Pro #1: A Veil is Romantic and Dramatic as You Walk Down the Aisle

A veil will add to the drama of the moment when you walk down the aisle towards your spouse. A veil also serves as a dramatic moment for your guests as this will be when your guests see your face in ceremony hair and makeup.  Also, if you tend to get emotional as you walk down the aisle, you have the veil to protect your look before you reach the end of the aisle.

Pro # 2: The Veil has a Historical Significance

A bride may be aware of the tradition of wearing a veil but may not fully understand the historical significance. In Greek and Roman times, a veil was used to represent a modest maiden as a bride as she was wrapped from head to toe. A veil was also used to hide brides so evil spirits couldn’t ruin their happiness on their wedding day. Today veils are considered more than just an accessory or a way to keep evil spirits away; they can be an integral part of your wedding day ensemble.

Pro # 3: It May Be the Only Time You Get to Wear A Veil

Veils are a special accessory that you may only get to wear once in a lifetime. Headbands, head pins, and fascinators are all options for gala’s, cocktail parties, or New Years Eve. There’s something special about wearing an accessory that was meant to be worn on your wedding day, and only on your wedding day. Despite the tradition of wearing a veil, veils  can easily be removed for your reception.

The Cons

Con # 1: Worrying About Wind and the Elements

Veils, particularly long ones that approach knee length can be difficult to manage if you’ve never worn one (be sure your bridesmaids are ready to offer help).  If your wedding ceremony is outdoors, a veil will become an item to worry about with wind, especially if you have a beach wedding. Sand, dirt, and other elements could damage your veil if you’re not careful.

Con # 2: A Veil Adds Another Layer of Fabric To Your Wedding Dress

As much as we all look forward to the big reveal moment with a veil, some brides may prefer not to wear one. Seeing your loved one’s reactions as they see you walking down the aisle may be more important to you than wearing a veil for your ceremony. There are other head covering options for you to consider. An off-the-face veil or a hat can be included if there are family or personal traditions.
