“Excuse me, bartender, I’ll have one of the ‘Kiss Me Sours.’” Now, that sounds a lot better than a whiskey sour. It tastes and looks better too because while it’s appearance matches your wedding theme, its flavors are your favorite. It’s a drink that was concocted especially for you. There is no other like it. That’s what you could have at your wedding. Your very own signature cocktail that is tailored to your perfect day.
As your guests file into the reception, they’ll walk up to the bar and see your signature drink on the menu. Create one for you and one for your partner. Depending on your budget, you can make it either a cash bar or open bar. You can also buy three drink options by the case, like red or white wine and beer, in addition to your signature drink so that your guests have choices. On top of that, you can make your signature drink have a virgin option to accomodate any age. That way, everyone is happy.
If your venue doesn’t already have its own bar services, you can hire your own. Or if you’re lucky, you can get a willing friend to do it. Either way, someone must be there to serve your signature drinks. Not sure how to start the creation process? That’s okay. Here’s a few steps to get you on your way to making your one-of-a-kind cocktail.
Step 1. Start with a liquor.
Think about popular liquors that are good mixers and that most guests will enjoy. Almost all liquors can be mixed with ingredients to make a great cocktail so this step is mainly about what you like and what you think your guests will enjoy. If both you and you and your partner are creating your own cocktail, choose a different liquor for each so there is a variety. Substitute a juice for the virgin option.
Step 2. Choose a few ingredients that pair well with your chosen spirits.
This step may take a little research. You can google popular drink pairings or even popular cocktail recipes and put your own spin to it by changing one or two ingredients/flavors. You can even ask a bartender or friend who has knowledge about drinks. If you don’t know anyone, just visit your local bar and ask the bartender.
Step 3. Taste test!
This is the fun part! Just make sure that you’re being safe. It may take a couple tries to get the taste that you’re happy with.
Step 4. Add a garnish.
It’s time to decorate! You can spice up your drink with a slice of citrus, slices strawberries, sprinkles on the rim, an umbrella, fun-shaped ice, whatever your heart desires! Choose something that goes along with your wedding’s theme. This will tie in the drink with the rest of your wedding’s elements.
Step 5. Concoct a name.
Now that you have created your drink, it’s time to give it a name. They all can’t be “Kiss Me Sours” but you can come up with something that fits your wedding better. Clever puns are always fun! If you can’t come up with one, there are few other things to get your creative juices flowing: play around with you and your partner’s first and last names, think of common hobbies you both share, use bridal or groom terms, or even a destination you plan to go together. The options are endless and it’s all up to you.
That’s it! You have just created the signature cocktail for your wedding. This element will welcome your guests to the party and make everyone feel like they are a part of your day! Also, this isn’t something that has to be a one and done after the wedding. This drink will be your special drink from then on. Make it for special occasions, your anniversary or just a casual night in.
