A Wedding Timeline For Grooms

Everyone talks about prep for the bride, but we can’t forget about prep for the groom. While there are many things they do together preparing for their big day there are some events and activities specific to the groom. Here is our wedding timeline for the groom.

A Year Before to Nine Months

The year before your wedding, if you’re following the traditional timeline, you should figure out who is paying for what.  Meet with all the parents and discuss who will be paying for which items and confirm your wedding budget.  This is also the time to work with your fiancé to research and book your venues, entertainment and menus. Start prepping your guest list and, if you have a destination wedding, start booking rooms.  Consider who you will ask to be your best man and groomsmen

Nine to Six Months Before

Nine months before your wedding, take your engagement photos. This will be helpful for your wedding announcements and can be used if you need photos for your wedding montage later. Eight months before, consult with your bride and create your wedding registry. Make sure you do it now as you want to give guests enough time.

Build a wedding website and send out your save the dates during this time as well. Six months before the wedding, order tuxedos for both you and the groomsmen. Also, six months before the wedding, finalize and select your wedding bands, and check out the marriage requirements in your state.

Five to Three Months Before

This is the time when things start to come together. Five months before the wedding, order your invitations and start planning your menu. Start creating a playlist/set list to share with your DJ/band.  Three months before your wedding arrange your wedding party vehicles and start planning the boutonnieres for the groomsmen and other flowers/corsages for the women.

Two Months Before

Two months before your wedding you want to attend the fitting for your tux. This ensures you have enough time for adjustments if needed. Don’t forget to purchase accessories you may need such as a  belt/suspenders, cuffs, and shoes to complete your wedding day look. If you want a shave, facial, haircut, or any other services, book them two months before your wedding. Confirm rehearsal dinner plans.

One Month to Wedding Day

With one month to go it’s time to focus on the finishing touches. One month before the wedding, apply for a marriage license to ensure there are no issues. Confirm the groomsmen’s attire, and make sure they don’t need help with anything.

Two weeks before, start your wedding day and honeymoon packing so you are assured you have enough time to include everything you will need for your travels.  Pick up your attire at least two weeks before your wedding, as well. Start planning your toast now and rehearse it a few times so you’re comfortable with it.

The day before your wedding make sure all your payments are in order to ensure payments go smoothly on your wedding day.
