When looking at wedding venues there are many things to consider. From budgets to amenities to location, there are a lot of things to consider when looking at a wedding venue. Here are five things to review when looking at wedding venues.
Budget
Probably the biggest consideration when looking at a wedding venue is budget. How much of your total wedding cost you are going to budget for your venue is important to consider. Questions to ask the venue coordinator Is: what’s included in the price and what will cost extra. Also ask if you can lower the cost by getting married in the off season, or a less traditional day such as Sunday.
Consider You Wedding Theme
Not every wedding venue will work for every wedding theme. For example, if you’re having a Modern theme, a barn or farm wedding venue may feel too rustic. If you’re having a rustic theme, something like a classic hotel ballroom can feel out of place. Your wedding venue is an extension of your theme, so it can be jarring if your venue spaces don’t match the theme you had in mind.
Number of Guests
Not all wedding venues can accommodate the same number of guests. If you have a small number of guests, consider a more intimate venue like a historic site, park, or farm as the space won’t be overwhelming. For larger weddings, you’ll want to consider hotels and country clubs as they can accommodate large weddings. Ask the venue the max capacity, and if they can supply extra tables, chairs, etc if needed.
Ask About a Back-Up Plan for Outdoor Spaces
The weather can be unpredictable, and it’s important that you know what to expect if the weather becomes inclement. Ask the venue what accommodations they can provide should the weather not cooperate. Make sure you tour the rooms/locations and confirm they will work for your wedding guests, including things like decorations and any extras such as food tables. Note that your DJ or band will need to move indoors as well. In summary, make sure you have a solid back up plan for your outdoor wedding should the weather take a turn.
Ask About Vendors
In addition to most venues having recommended vendors for catering, service, etc. (if they don’t have in-house services), discuss with them the possibility of bringing in your favorite or recommended vendors. Ask how the venue feels about other vendors coming in and providing services for your wedding. If they have no objections, then make sure all parties are in agreement as to guidelines for outside vendors using the venue’s facilities.
