Moderate temperatures and plentiful colors make fall a fantastic time to get married. As the leaves change, so does your new life. If you’re looking for a perfect fall wedding, here are a few of our fall wedding tips.
Use a Color Palette that works for the Season
Fall is a time when nature starts to change, and wedding colors that complement the seasonal colors will accentuate your ceremony. Modern combinations such dark red, orange, black, and cream are a great way to use seasonal tones and can be used for your bridal party, table linens and flowers.
Adding jewel tones such as dark green, magenta, dark purple, and teal are unique, and can bring some of your personality to your wedding day. Neutrals such as beiges and tans work well with the natural colors of the season.
Keep the Time of Year, and Weather in Mind
Depending on when in fall you get married, the sun may set sooner than you may think. Setting an earlier start not only ensures your guests will be comfortable for your ceremony, but also that you have adequate light for your photos. Weather can go from warm to chilly quickly, so having a back up plan for the weather is a good idea. Have a tent ready for sudden storms or chills and if it’s warm, offer water bottles for guests.
Use Seasonal Decor
Even if you’re having an indoor wedding, you can bring the outdoors inside. Pumpkins and gourds are seasonal items that can work as table décor. Leaves (real or artificial) can be used on tables, or as a part of your bridal or floral bouquets. Vines and ivy can be fun tied around posts, or on table legs. Burlap or coarse linen can work well for table cloths.
Select a Seasonal Menu
Eating a seasonal menu is not only cost effective, but it can also support local businesses. Mains such as steak are hearty and will work well with squash and other seasonal vegetables. Likewise, chicken and/or local seafood will also work well. Selective use of fall spices can also be incorporated into your menu, particularly dessert. Pumpkin and apples are fresh, and a popular dessert to go with your wedding cake, particularly in pie form. Cinnamon is a spice that could work well to enhance pumpkin or apple.
Keep Guests Warm with Your Wedding Favors
As previously mentioned, the weather in the fall can turn chilly. As a bridesmaid’s gift, consider offering a shawl as it will provide warmth without compromising your bridesmaids dresses. Blankets and shawls with your wedding date, or a design personal to you, will ensure your guests stay comfortable, and they can be taken home by your guests as a remembrance of your special day.
