Wedding desserts are a key discussion when it comes to planning your wedding reception menu. While traditionally cake is served, modern couples often search for more options and alternatives. Here are five different types of wedding desserts.
#1 – Dessert Fountain
This is a way to add a striking visual to your dessert table and will be a great complement to your wedding cake. A chocolate fountain or fondue fountain is a way to incorporate sweet and savory snacks into your wedding dessert. Marshmallows and fruit are popular sweet picks.
Pretzel rods are a popular pick for a savory option. This is a fun option because it’s interactive for guests and you can keep it contained to one table. Alternatively, you can add an additional fountain for a varied selection.
#2 – Donuts
Donuts are a fun treat both for you and your guests of all ages. Donuts are an affordable treat that are easier to find than other wedding desserts. Donuts, like cake, can come in many different flavors and fillings and toppings to customize the dessert for your taste.
Work with your local baker and have your donuts customized to your wedding colors. A donut bar is another option, starting with plain donuts and adding a variety of frostings and toppings. Consider a donut wall or a donut tower and decorative plates as a serving option.
#3 – Waffle Bar
Waffles can be sweet or savory depending on the toppings. Like donuts, waffles have a variety of options for fillings and toppings to play around with to make the wedding dessert more personal. Chocolate, fruit, or syrup, and of course whipped cream are sweet options to top the waffles (and don’t forget the classic ice cream waffle sandwich). Chicken, nuts, and bacon are options if you want to offer guests a savory option. A table for the waffle bar and toppings is the best way for easy access.
#4 – Ice Cream Truck for Sundaes
Take ice cream sundaes to the next level with an ice cream truck at your reception. Depending on the ice cream truck’s selection, you may have the choice for soft serve or hard ice cream, or maybe both. As far as toppings go, the options are endless and could definitely fill a table inside or outside your wedding venue. This is probably the most customizable dessert on this list.
#5 – Cookie Bar
A cookie bar is another versatile dessert for guests of all ages. Cookies can be your favorite cookies, popular classics, or recipes that are a part of your family’s tradition. A cookie bar is simple because all you would need is a table or two and some decorative plates. For an added touch, consider a coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or milk station in addition to the cookies (a hot beverage bar can be included with any of the dessert options we’ve discussed here).
