A holiday wedding can add a festive air of fun to your big day. It also comes with its own unique challenges. Is a holiday wedding right for you? In today’s blog, let’s talk about the pros and cons of hosting a holiday wedding.
Pros
#1 – Most Guests Already have the Time off Work
When getting married around a holiday, your guests will most likely already have off work. Having a three-day wedding weekend, especially around big holidays, guests will be more likely available to attend. A three-day wedding weekend can be fun because you can plan activities outside of the wedding, perhaps incorporating an activity related to the holiday.
#2 – Festive Themes and Low Stress Décor
One of the biggest pros about getting married around a holiday is planning décor. If you’re having a winter wedding, red and green for Christmas or blue and silver for Chanukah are colors of the season to use for your wedding. Each holiday also has some traditional items attached to it such as wreaths, candles, and tablecloths.
#3 – A Smaller Guest List
If you’re looking to have a smaller, more intimate wedding, getting married around a holiday can work well because the guest list will be smaller. Many guests may already have traditions and plans for holidays such as Thanksgiving and other holidays already planned. Close family and friends will make your wedding day work, but acquaintances or work colleagues may decline the invitation.
Cons
#1 – The Wedding May Come with a Higher Price Tag
Popular times of year means that wedding costs will rise. Labor Day weekend falls during what’s considered peak wedding season, which can drive the price of everything from vendors to caterers to rise. Demand drives price, so getting married during peak season will generally be more expensive.
#2 – Limited Vendor Options
The holiday season can also mean vendors are booked for other events. Corporate events such as office parties, end of the year celebrations, and private parties all happen at the end of the year. Vendors are booked for these events months in advance, so it’s better to book all your vendors: caterers, venues, photographers, and entertainment as early as possible before the other events start their bookings.
#3 – Traveling During One of the Busiest Times of the Year
Something to keep in mind when considering a wedding around the holidays is travel. There will be more traffic on the day of the holiday, or the days surrounding it as people travel to spend time with their extended family for the holidays. Airports will also have more traffic, and the cost of plane tickets will be more for your traveling guests.
