Pros and Cons of Having Two Wedding Outfits

As a bride planning your wedding wardrobe, you might consider having two wedding outfits. Having two wedding outfits comes with benefits, but with considerations to keep in mind before making a final decision. Here are the six pros and cons of having two wedding day outfits.

Pros of Having Two Wedding Outfits

First, let’s get into the pros.

You Can Have Two Different Styles

Sometimes a bride will want to have a more formal wedding gown, and then a more casual outfit for the fun after the ceremony. This might especially be true if your ceremony gown is one that has been passed down in your family. A traditional gown warrants more traditional accessories such as a simple necklace or a bracelet, and earrings letting the dress speak for itself.

A more non-traditional style can be something you wear at the reception for more ease of movement. When you’re dancing the night away, you want something  more comfortable. This second style allows you to add more fun accessories such as a statement necklace or earrings.

Practicality

Function and Practicality is one factor when considering two outfits. For example, for your   ceremony you may be only sitting and standing.  However, at your reception, in addition you will be dancing and moving throughout the venue to talk with your guests. So a more practical, free flowing dress may be more appropriate for your reception.

Different Outfits for Your Wedding Day Photos

Having a varied photoshoot on your wedding day can be a fun way for you to remember different aspects of your day. For your ceremony, formal photos would be more traditional.. Likewise, after the ceremony, for mingling with guests and at your reception, a second outfit could add a different perspective.

Cons of Having Two Wedding Outfits

That said, here are some of the drawbacks of having two outfits.

Budget

Having two dresses means an extra cost. The bride and groom have a wedding budget, and adding an extra cost should be talked about by both parties before making a final decision.  Alterations may become a factor, so it’s important to consider this as well. Consider your overall budget when making a decision to get a second wedding dress.

Two Outfits Can Disrupt the Flow

A wedding day is usually well planned. Having outfit changes can disrupt the flow, if these are not included in your planning. Hair and/or make-up adjustments for different outfits  can also add more time that needs to be accounted for.

Added Time to Look for a Second Outfit

In addition to the financial budget, you also have to consider your time budget when considering a second outfit. Wedding planning takes a lot of time, and you may not have time to shop for that second outfit. You could luck out and find two outfits at the same store.  However, it’s likely you’ll need to shop around before buying a second dress or outfit. There’s also added time for looking for accessories for that second outfit.
