Pros and Cons of a Big Wedding vs. a Small Wedding

Different weddings come in different sizes. Choosing whether to have a big or small wedding is an important distinction, and some things may work better than others. In today’s blog, let’s go over the pros and cons of a big wedding vs. a small wedding.

Big Wedding Pros and Cons

Pro: More Access to Vendors

Some vendors may have rules regarding the size of your reception. These conditions may include a minimum number of people for your event or combining rooms or services they can provide based on your size.  Catering services usually need a minimum number of guests, and having a big wedding, you can ensure you’ll meet the minimum number of guests. Venues may also have a requirement for the minimum number of guests to efficiently make use of the venue.

Con: Price

Guests are generally priced per person, so it can add up. Larger venues tend to be more costly, and you also have to add the cost of additional decorations. Food and drinks will add to the cost per person which should be considered.

Pro: Bigger Guest List

When you have a small guest list, you need to worry about who to invite. A bigger venue allows you to include more of your friends and family. This may also save any arguments or disagreements about who goes on the guest list. A larger guest list also allows you to include a plus one for your single friends.

Small Wedding Pros and Cons

Pro: Personal Touches

A smaller wedding means that you can focus your wedding on your personal taste. Everything from a personal note to every guest, to custom-made gift bags, no detail can go unlooked when you have a smaller wedding. Another personal touch can be hand written place cards,  personal menus, or a signature cocktail specific to your wedding theme.

Con: Limited Guest List

When you have a smaller wedding, you need to look at the guest list. You can only have as many guests as the venue or your budget allows. You may need to exclude more distant friends or family as unfortunate as that may be. You need to be careful yet considerate as you create your list.

Pro: More Intimate

If you want to spend more time interacting with your guests, a smaller wedding is most appropriate. With a more intimate guest list, you can also cater to things like music,  food and beverages. A more intimate wedding is also a way to make special memories for your guests as you can spend more time with them.
