Bridesmaids are people close to the bride selected specifically to assist her for her wedding. They’re a part of the wedding party which also includes the maid and/or matron of honor, best man, groomsmen, and other members of the wedding party. A bridesmaid will attend pre-wedding events, assist the bride in preparing on her wedding day and stand with the bride at the wedding ceremony. Here are tips for the bridesmaids to help their friend get ready for her big day.
Before the Wedding
Check in With the Couple Regularly
As a bridesmaid, it’s a part of your job to check in with the bride, offering help and being a point person for the bride. Sometimes vendors will ask for an alternate contact person in addition to the bride and groom. Likewise, bridesmaids may also be a contact for the wedding planner if the bride or groom is busy. Generally in this role the bridesmaid will communicate the requests or questions to the bride and carry their response back.
Help Plan and Attend the Bachelorette Party
When considering the list of bridesmaid duties, this is one of the most important and can also be the most fun. Bachelorette parties can come in all shapes and sizes, so check in with the bride when you start planning. Find something the bride will enjoy and will also be enjoyed by the entire group. Everything from dinner at a nice restaurant, a night at a club, a winery tour, or a hike are all great options if you need ideas.
The Week of the Wedding
The week of the wedding can be one of the busiest times for the bride. Offering to help with packing and other essential tasks will help make sure that the bride doesn’t miss anything. Making an emergency kit with band aids, nail clippers, extra bobby pins or hair pins, hair spray, deodorant, and any make-up you may need for touch ups will be appreciated.
On The Wedding Day
On her wedding day, the bride will need your help with getting ready. This could include making sure the gown is situated correctly, making sure her veil is where it should be, and helping her put her shoes on. Make sure you check in throughout the day and address any issues or problems that may arise. Everything should be in place when you and the bride begin their walk down the aisle.
After the Wedding
After the wedding, there will be items that need to be taken down, and put away to be returned, or go back to the bride and groom. This can include helping take down the decorations and making sure the bride and groom have everything they need before they leave the reception. Any items that need to be returned to the bride and groom, make sure to collect everything, package them securely and return the items to the bride and groom when they are ready to receive them.
