Wedding registries are a timeless tradition between couples when they get engaged. From the time of the engagement to the wedding day, these gifts help them start their lives together, both for their home and personally. Not sure how to go about your wedding registry? Here are wedding registry tips.
Register Ahead of Time
This is not only courteous for your guests, but it also allows you to see what items have been selected. Four to six months ahead of your wedding day is a time frame to start your registry because it allows you to include shower gifts as well. Since you may not know everything you will want or need at first, start with the basics.
Don’t Forget to Take Stock of What You Have
Once you become engaged, you will be combining your households into one. Before you register, take an inventory of what you already have. It’s easy to add all the nice items presented to you when you set up your wedding registry, but how many dinnerware sets do you really need? Talk with your fiancé about what you need, what you want so you’re both in agreement (it’s okay for each of you to have one or two personal “wants” on the list). If you’ve been living together for a while, don’t worry about adding things you would need if you were just moving in together.
Give Guests Options When Making Your Registry
While you may have a small guest list, it doesn’t mean that your wedding registry should be limited. A good rule of thumb is to take the number of guests multiplied by two for the number of gifts on the registry. Include a wide variety of options so your guests have choices both in style and in price. Have a mix of individual items as well as sets on your registry for your guests.
Have Your Registry All In One Place
Gone are the days when people would have different registries at multiple stores. Today there are websites and apps that allow you to centralize your registry in one place. This will make things easier for both you and your guests to see what has or hasn’t been purchased.
Don’t Forget to Update Your Registry Regularly
Once you make your registry, it’s easy to forget about it until the gifts start showing up. From the time you’re engaged until your wedding day, keep your wedding registry fresh and updated as purchases are made. As mentioned before, maintain a variety of price ranges and items on your list when you update. Guests may be purchasing multiple gifts so this is another reason to revisit your wedding registry regularly so that your list doesn’t “sell out”.
